Get Involved in Extracurricular Activities
Volunteer to mentor high school students in your community.
There is more to preparing for college than getting good grades and high standardized
test scores. Colleges and universities also look at the interpersonal and leadership
skills developed through involvement in extracurricular
activities. Your activities outside of the classroom may have an impact
upon your chances of being admitted to a selective college or receiving a scholarship.
Colleges and universities often look for activities that complement your education.
Working or volunteering in your school, the community,
or religious organizations gives a variety of opportunities to explore your interests
and talents.
It is not expected that you be involved in a long list of activities; however, it
is important to show quality, continued involvement with the activities that you
participate in. Admissions officers look for the amount of commitment you have to
your extracurricular activities.
